Toronto in a Day: The Neighbourhoods That Tell the City's Story

Distillery, Kensington, St. Lawrence, and the Annex — what makes each one different.

Toronto rewards walkers. On our city tours we cluster stops by neighbourhood character.

Distillery District — 19th-century industrial brick, pedestrian-only, great for coffee and photos. Touristy in a good way.

St. Lawrence Market — twice voted best food market in the world by National Geographic. Get a peameal bacon sandwich at Carousel Bakery.

Kensington Market — vintage shops, Jamaican patties, Chilean empanadas, and Toronto's best people-watching. Resists chain stores by design.

The Annex — Victorian homes, the University of Toronto, and Honest Ed's old footprint. Where the city's literary class lives.

Yorkville — luxury shopping built on a former hippie enclave. Worth a walk for the contrast alone.

You cannot do all five in a single afternoon. Pick two, walk them properly, and save the others for next trip.
